Hollow Rock Milky Way on 5/29/2024 at 11:42pm
A shot three years in the making. I've been trying to shoot the rising Milky Way above Hollow Rock with airglow for several years. One year, I was skunked by a murky horizon and thunderstorms. Another year, it was Canadian wildfires. But I finally ... FINALLY ... had a night where conditions were ideal.
And someone left the interior lights on and blinds wide open in their cabin!?
The cabin lights cast a pale glow over the shoreline, and there was nothing I could do about it. Skunked again? That's what I thought, but I went ahead and shot several sequences. Maybe I could correct it post-processing.
Turns out I didn't need to do anything at all. Those lights that drove me nuts did a great job light painting Hollow Rock. I couldn't have done better myself. The airglow itself wasn't as intense as I had hoped, but it's there ... and I love the lit foreground.
