Split Rock Lighthouse Aurora / Milkyway on 3/24/2023 at 5:10am
I had already planned to shoot the rising Milky Way over Split Rock when a G2 aurora watch was issued. Always one to take advantage of opportunity, I made a small tweak to my plans and arrived a few hours earlier "just in case". I'm sure glad I did!
The G2 watch blossomed into a G4 storm, and after spending the night watching the aurora, I still had that rising Milky Way shot to capture. The only problem? The aurora was too strong, overpowering the faint glow of the Milky Way.
But as morning approached, the aurora started to subside, creating a unique chance to capture both the aurora and Milky Way in the same image. I couldn't have planned it any better ...
