Grand Finale
Palisade Head Aurora on 5/11/2024 at 3:46am
I already had an aurora shot taken from Palisade Head years ago and swore I wouldn't try shooting this location again. But with an hour or so of shooting time left and the gate to the top open, I decided to check it out.
The aurora had calmed down by the time I reached the top and I setup by the rock wall to see what would happen. Then another substorm hit, and it was “game on” once again.
What a night! I drove through rain to reach the North Shore, only to be greeted by clear skies and the first G5 geomagnetic storm in 20 years. I managed to hit three substorms at three locations, shot several hundred pictures, and will still be going through pictures from this night for years to come.
