Black Hole Sun
Total Solar Eclipse on 4/8/2024 at 1:11pm
If you ever get a chance to watch a solar eclipse, make sure you're on the path of totality. Watching the sun pass through various phases is OK, but totality is where it's at.
Once the last sliver of the sun slides behind the moon, the solar corona magically appears. A black hole surround by shimmering veil of light in the middle of the day, you realize why cultures through the ages have been enamored, mystified, or even terrified by this natural event.
This total eclipse also arrived near solar maximum, providing a chance to see several solar prominences ... a few were even visible to the naked eye. I'm ready for the next one, but that won't be until 2044 for viewers in North America.
